With club legends Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic no longer at Manchester United, the 2014/15 season will undoubtedly shine a spotlight on the club’s remaining centre-backs.

The Reds are not short of talent in that department either with Jonny EvansPhil Jonesand Chris Smalling all vying for starting positions under Louis van Gaal. Given that this is such an important campaign for all three, it’s important they are fully prepared for action.
As such, United’s triumvirate of defenders were all delighted to approve of the club’s new home kit, which will be worn for the first time during this month’s friendly with LA Galaxy.
Speaking to ManUtd.com, former Academy graduate Evans said: “It’s nicely fitted, so it makes me look even slimmer! It’s a very nice kit and to be fair, every time we bring out a new kit the lads seem to be impressed with it.
“It feels great and you’re playing for the badge on it. It doesn’t matter exactly what the kit looks like, but it does feel good when you’ve got a kit on that you do like to wear, that feels nice when you go out to play, but as long as the badge is there, it doesn’t really matter.”

Versatile powerhouse Jones is also enthused by the kit, which he is still proud to wear on matchday. “It’s very nice, it fits quite well and I like the attention to detail this year. I think the lads are going to like it.
“It’s slightly different this year, with the button at the top, but we like to do things differently. It means a lot to wear this shirt. Every time you go out you have to prove that you’re good enough to wear it. It’s always a proud moment putting it on.”
As for Smalling, who is about to enter his fifth season at the Theatre of Dreams, he can’t wait for the action to begin. “The history of the shirt is massively important and having that Red Devil on your badge gives you that something extra to play for.
“I think it’s very smart. I like the fact that it’s not got a collar - that works with me. As I say it’s very smart and the addition of the button is a nice touch. You can always change it depending on what mood you’re in. It’s nice to have a bit of variety.”
